The world of dementia can be overwhelming and confusing.  This page is dedicated to providing resources and go-to organisations that can help with advice and information focused on all facets of dementia from the medical aspect of the disease to end of life care.  It is by no means an exhaustive list so more will be added in time.

 ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY UK

Alzheimer’s Society is a UK care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers. It operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, while its sister charities Alzheimer Scotland, and Alzheimer Society of Ireland cover Scotland and the Republic of Ireland respectively. DEMENTIA UK

Dementia UK is a charitable organisation in the United Kingdom. It aims to support those living with dementia and their families, primarily through their specialist nurses, called Admiral Nurses. As of 2022, they have 376 Admiral Nurses working throughout the UK. Wikipedia

AGE UK

SAMARITANS

Samaritans is a UK based charity that supports people who have depression and suicidal thoughts. They are available to provide support on the phone, by email or in person at one of their locations.

MERI YAADAIN BAME DEMENTIA

Dr Mohammad Akhlak Rauf MBE has been a voice for the ethnic minorities in terms of providing advice and consulting to families with persons with dementia. He is involved in research, as well as spreading the word about dementia.

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION (US Based)

According to their website ‘Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organisation in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.’

ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE INTERNATIONAL (US Based)

Alzheimer’s Disease International, according to their website is ‘the international federation of Alzheimer and dementia associations around the world; in official relations with the World Health Organisation (WHO)’.

Videos

Kayleigh Ogleby lost her mother to dementia in 2025.  She has been spreading awareness of the disease via her tiktok account and recounting her journey with her mother’s illness.  Please check out her tiktok account:

Debra Kostiw, an ex-caregiver of her mother who had Alzheimer’s Dementia, realised that there was a need for information/courses on how to deal with a person living with dementia from a practical perspective. She provides courses, videos and access to Q/A lives where she addresses some of these issues. One of her programs is a called the Certified Masters Dementia Strategist. Debra is based in the USA.

Downloads

University College London established a program, called START (STrAtegies for RelaTives). Following trials it was supported by Alzheimer’s Society, University of Bradford and University of Exeter. There are manuals in various languages that can be downloaded from the UCL website.
